Nevada Aids Research and Education Society

NARES2 is a non-profit, community-based research consortium dedicated to improving people’s lives through healthcare research and education. NARES2—Nevada Access to Research and Education Society, Nevada AIDS Research and Education Society and the Nevada Antimicrobial Research Foundation—is engaged in FDA-approved clinical drug trials at all levels—Phase I, Phase II, Phase III and Phase IV.

Realizing that a high quality life involves more that simple physical health, NARES2 complements clinical trials with psychosocial and behavioral research. NARES2 was founded as a non-profit so that any potential income from clinical trials could be reinvested in the various communities being served. NARES2 was founded in 1994 as a means of ensuring that People Living with HIV/AIDS had access to the best new therapies. NARES2 continues to sponsor therapeutic drug trials for people infected with HIV. Furthermore, NARES2 was selected as one of the United States sites for the first-ever Phase III AIDS vaccine trial. NARES2 Co-Founder, Dr. Jim Christensen, an established allergist and immunologist, had been actively engaged in clinical research in 1994 for many years. In order to help diversify NARES2 and ensure its survival, Dr. Christensen folded his successful research efforts into NARES2. Clinical trials for asthma and other respiratory problems have been a part of NARES2 since its inception. For a complete list of NARES2 ongoing Asthma clinical trials, click here.

However in 1998, NARES2 expanded its mission to include treatment for diabetes, hyperlipidemia, gout, hypertension, pain and other general internal medicine problems. For a complete list of NARES2 ongoing General Medical clinical trials, click here.

In addition, NARES2 has participated in other infectious disease clinical trials. All NARES2 investigators are practicing clinicians as well as researchers with particular expertise in HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C and other infectious diseases as well as general internal medicine. In an effort to assure a greater focus on the emerging infectious disease problems in health care, the Nevada Antimicrobial Research Foundation was created within NARES2 in 2006.
