HIV Resistance:
This clinical trial is designed to determine the prevalence of antiretroviral drug resistance in treatment naïve HIV-positive patients. The following criteria are necessary for inclusion into this trial:
- > 19 years of age
- Documented laboratory evidence of HIV-1 infection
- Most recent HIV viral load prior to Visit 1 is >600 RNA copies per mL
- Antiretroviral treatment naïve (i.e. has never taken an antiretroviral drug)
- In consultation with the study investigator, patient has decided to initiate antiretroviral treatment
- Is expected by the investigator to begin taking an antiretroviral regimen once genotype resistance test results from Visit 1 are available to the investigator
- Fluent in English
- Community dwelling
- Consents to participate in the study
The following criteria would exclude a patient from this trial:
- Concurrently enrolled in any HIV-related investigational clinical drug trials during the period of study participation (study participation duration if expected to be ~ 4 weeks)
- Has been determined by the investigator to be in need of antiretroviral drug treatment before Visit 1 HIV-1 genotype resistance test results are available to the investigator
